這現代設計最引人注目的特點是它結合了生活/餐飲 /廚房區在一起，十分寬敞的。開放式廚房的中央有一個做雙重任務“大島”，它作為“廚師桌”又是招待客人的餐桌，這樣的設計就不必佔用太多空間。 設計利用了創新材料來完成的， 它不僅是時尚和實用，而且處理了可持續性設計的問題。 地板和牆壁鑲板是由竹子造成的，竹子是一個可再生 和可持續使 用天然材料。牆壁是由一個特殊的水泥渲染完成，它賦予一個原始而又美麗的紋理，無需油漆或牆紙。 這公寓所有的電燈都是可調較的，能有效減少能源消耗和延長光源的生命。 降低的能源消耗，對可持續性方程式的整體有重大的影響。 可持續性方程式是一個非常複雜的問題，在現今的香港，它是難以解決的。但這一領域的任何進展都是聊勝於無，這公寓的突出設計便是一個很好的例證。

Sustainability in Design
As environmental responsibility continues to impact the actions of our daily lives, being green in the home is a commitment that many people are putting in place, and it doesn’t need to be at the sacrifice of quality. This 1,200 sq.ft. bachelor’s apartment takes up the top floor of a family house in Yau Yat Chuen, Kowloon and was designed and fitout by BLT Vision (www.bltvision.com).
The strikingly modern design features a combined living/dining/kitchen zone, creating a spacious open-plan area the heart of the apartment. The open kitchen has a large central island doing double duty as a “chef’s table” for eating and entertaining guests in a way that is both intimate and informal, obviating the need for a space-consuming dining table.
The design makes use of innovative materials and finishes that are not only stylish and practical, but also addresses issues of sustainability in design. Flooring and wall paneling is made from bamboo, which is one of the most renewable and sustainable natural materials available. The walls are finished in a special cement-render, which imparts a raw yet beautiful texture while also eliminating the need for paint or wallpaper. All lighting in the apartment is dimmable, including the recessed fluorescent lightcoves, which is also an important approach to reducing energy consumption and prolonging the life of the light-sources. Lower energy consumption combined with a longer lifecycle can have a significant impact on the overall sustainability equation. It has to be admitted that this overall sustainability equation is a very complex issue and one that is certainly difficult to address in the context of Hong Kong. However any attempts to make progress in this area are better than none, and this design highlights some options that can be pursued.
